A silk scarf inspired by a decaying leaf

Aren't autumn leaves amazing and strange? The way the sap drains away leaving something unexpectedly beautiful behind. I particularly like the contrasts here; red and green, waved edge and spiky lines, brittle and sharp, and the apparently wasteful gorgeousness of it.

This year I designed a silk painted scarf using drawings I had made of this leaf. Before it was quite so ragged!

This was a detail of a drawing which for me had the right combination of these contrasts. The final design is below, still attached to the frame.

pongee silk, silver gutta, silk paints, sharpies

And another with a different colour palette, which I prefer.

I would be happy to make a scarf on commission.
